Message from our President:
October, 2009
Congratulations Raleigh-Wake HRMA!
Thanks to the hard work by YOU, our members and volunteers, RWHRMA received much recognition at the NCSHRM State Conference in September. Detailed articles follow in this newsletter but allow me to brag on you for just a minute:
• For your outstanding work in 2008 on the 2nd Annual RWHRMA SHRM Foundation Charity Golf Tournament, RWHRMA received the coveted Crown Award from NCSHRM! This annual recognition honors the highest achievements in the state for a chapter’s development and contributions that Advance the Profession and Serve the Professional.
• NCSHRM recognized RWHRMA as one of several Distinguished Professional Chapters of the Year! This tribute is based on the Chapter’s work and Superior Merit status with SHRM.
• RWHRMA won the bid to host the 2011 NCSHRM State Conference!
As a Chapter, we will continue to strive for excellence in all that we do. I’m very proud to be a member of RWHRMA and I hope that you are too! As part of our quest for excellence, I hope that each of you will join me in completing the 2009 Annual RWHRMA Member Survey. Understanding what brings value to your membership helps RWHRMA establish and continue meaningful services and programs to make your membership worthwhile. So please complete your survey by October 27th and let us know your feedback!
Speaking of feedback, what feedback do you have for our governmental representatives on the health care bills that are being considered at this time? With five or so health care bills in various stages of negotiations, it’s difficult to predict what may be finalized for a vote. According to a report by ABC News, the bills have some common themes that are anticipated to be in the final proposal and some huge questions:
• Everyone required to have insurance.
• Some form of government subsidies to assist lower income families in purchasing.
• Coverage cannot be denied.
• Will employers be required to buy insurance for their employees?
• How does all of this get paid for?
While it may seem premature to voice an opinion, now is actually a great time for us to be communicating with our representatives so our interests can be heard. Let your position be known and understood so we can help influence the final proposal.
All the best,
Kim Mills, PHR
RWHRMA President, 2009
